📜 IPC Section 183: Resistance to the taking of property by the lawful authority of a public servant

Text of Section 183:

"Whoever offers any resistance to the taking of any property by the lawful authority of a public servant, knowing that such public servant is acting in the exercise of his lawful powers, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both."

Applies when a public servant, like a police officer or revenue officer, lawfully seizes or takes possession of property.

If a person resists this action knowing the officer has legal authority, they can be punished.

This is to ensure compliance with lawful authority and protect public servants while performing their duties.

⚖️ Punishment:

Imprisonment: Up to 6 months, or

Fine: Up to ₹1000, or

Both

🧑‍⚖️ Example:

If a revenue officer comes to seize land due to unpaid government dues and the owner forcibly stops him, Section 183 IPC can be applied.
