IPC Section 200
IPC Section 200 β False statement made in declaration which is by law receivable as evidence
Text of Section 200:
"Whoever makes in any declaration, verification, certificate, writing, or other document, which is by law receivable as evidence of any fact, any statement which is false, and which he either knows or believes to be false or does not believe to be true, is said to make a false statement."
π Key points:
This section deals with making false statements in documents or declarations that are legally admissible as evidence.
The person must either:
Know the statement is false, or
Believe it to be false, or
Not believe it to be true.
Such a statement is treated as a false statement under the law.
π Why is this important?
It covers false declarations or written statements in affidavits, certificates, or any legal document.
It helps maintain the truthfulness and reliability of evidence in legal proceedings.
βοΈ Punishment:
Section 200 itself defines the false statement but punishment for such acts is generally under other sections like IPC Section 191 (giving false evidence) or Section 193 (punishment for false evidence), depending on the context.
Example:
If someone submits a false affidavit or certificate in a court case, knowing itβs false, they are liable under Section 200 for making a false statement.
