IPC Section 218

IPC Section 218 deals with the concealing with intent to screen an offender.

🔹 Full Text of IPC Section 218:

"Whoever, knowing or having reason to believe that an offense has been committed, and that a particular person has committed it, intentionally conceals the existence of such offense, or the identity, or the whereabouts of such person, with intent to screen such person from legal punishment, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both."

The person knows or suspects that an offense has been committed.

They know or believe the identity of the offender.

They intentionally conceal the offense, or the identity or whereabouts of the offender.

The purpose is to protect or screen the offender from legal punishment.

Punishment: Imprisonment up to 3 months, or fine, or both.

🔹 Example:

If someone helps a friend hide from the police after the friend committed theft, knowing about the crime, they may be charged under Section 218.
