USP's Emalus Campus in Port Vila is the hub for legal education in Vanuatu. The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program is a four-year course accredited by the Fiji Board of Legal Education and recognized across the Pacific region. The curriculum includes compulsory courses such as Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, and Legal Ethics, along with electives tailored to the Pacific context .
USP also offers a Master of Economics and Social Sciences (ESS) program, which, while not solely focused on law, provides interdisciplinary training in law, economics, and social sciences. ⚖️ Legal Landscape in Vanuatu
Vanuatu's legal system is unique, operating on a dual framework that incorporates both customary law and formal state law. Customary law is recognized in the Constitution and continues to have effect as part of the law of the Republic of Vanuatu . The country has a small legal profession, with only a few magistrates, most of whom lack formal legal education .
