Supreme Court Anguilla (BOT)

Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory, does not have a separate Supreme Court. Instead, its highest judicial authority is the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), which serves several territories and independent states in the Eastern Caribbean region.

Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC):

  • Jurisdiction: The ECSC has unlimited jurisdiction across all member states and territories, including Anguilla.
  • Structure:
    • High Court: Handles civil and criminal cases at the first instance.
    • Court of Appeal: Hears appeals from the High Court.
  • Headquarters: Located in Castries, Saint Lucia.

Judicial System in Anguilla:

  • High Court: Based in Anguilla, this court deals with civil and criminal matters.
  • Court of Appeal: An itinerant court that travels to various member states, including Anguilla, to hear appeals.
  • Final Court of Appeal: Decisions from the ECSC can be appealed to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in the United Kingdom.

This structure ensures that Anguilla's legal system is integrated with the broader judicial framework of the Eastern Caribbean, providing access to a range of judicial resources and expertise.
