⚖️ Legal Framework and Gender Equality

Domestic Violence Act (2020): This landmark legislation, assented to by President Danny Faure on June 9, 2020, prohibits various forms of domestic violence, including physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, economic, and psychological abuse. It provides for the protection of victims and penalties for perpetrators, aiming to reduce the number of annual reported cases of domestic violence. The Act came into operation on December 4, 2023. Gender Policy and Action Plan: The Seychelles government is in the process of reviewing its National Gender Policy and Action Plan to ensure they are comprehensive, updated, and applicable to all bodies and agencies nationwide. This review aims to strengthen gender mainstreaming and address emerging challenges.

Gender Secretariat:Housed within the Research and Policy Planning Division of the Family Department, the Gender Secretariat acts as the lead agency within the Gender Management System. Its role includes facilitating gender mainstreaming in all policies, programs, and activities of the government, the private sector, and civil society

Shelter for Women Victims of Gender-Based Violence: In 2018, Seychelles inaugurated its first-ever shelter for women victims of gender-based violence. Funded by the European Union and implemented by the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (CEPS), the shelter provides a safe place for women who have suffered gender-based violence and those using drugs, supporting their social integration
