Code of Maine Rules 04 - DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION

Code of Maine Rules (CMR) – Title 04: Department of Conservation

🔍 Overview:

Title 04 of the Code of Maine Rules (CMR) contains the rules and regulations issued by the Department of Conservation, which was historically responsible for overseeing Maine’s natural resources, including public lands, forests, parks, and geological resources.

⚠️ Note: In 2012, the Maine Department of Conservation was merged with the Department of Agriculture to form the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF). As a result, some older rules may still appear under CMR Title 04, but new or updated rules are likely to be found under CMR Title 01 (DACF).

Although no longer actively updated under this title, Title 04 may include rules from the following former divisions:

Bureau of Parks and Lands

Bureau of Forestry

Bureau of Geology, Natural Areas and Coastal Resources

Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) – later became the Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC) under DACF

📚 Examples of Rule Topics Under Title 04:

Rules for camping, recreation, and use of state parks

Timber harvesting regulations on public lands
